Who Are We?

Artist, Writer and
Founder of Rack & Rune

Rack and Rune founder, Graham Davidson, is a professional creative with over 40 years’ experience. He has won dozens of national and international industry awards for his work in advertising, particularly as a director and animation designer.

The backstory of an unsuccesful pitch for a children’s television series ended up morphing into his first novel (currently waiting for him to pull it out of the drawer and complete its 10th draft). A short time after this he was published for the first time in a short story anthology, Wish Upon a Southern Star. He then wrote his first junior novel, Rise of the Shadow People. While writing that work, he signed up with Hunter Writers Centre (HWC) and joined their children’s writing group.  At his first meeting he met Emily S Smith who had also only recently joined HWC.

A year or so later, they came up with the idea of creating Storytime Lane, an early childhood literacy initiative that involved the creation of picture books, storytelling videos, a comprehensive website with downloadable activities, and stage shows that they perform at festivals and libraries. By this stage Graham had completed two more books aimed at the middle-grade & young adult readers, in The Witches of the Cross-Worlds series (the third book is in its final draft and will be released soon).

In early 2020 he founded and directed the inaugural IF Maitland Indie Festival, a celebration of independent publishing in all its forms. IF Maitland has now expanded to include an arts festival, film screenings and stage shows.

Impressed by the quality of the books Graham had published, HWC began using his services to refine the presentation of their anthologies and look after the final preparations for printing.

In response to ongoing approaches from people looking for assistance with getting their books into print he has now started Rack and Rune Publishing, a business geared towards making publishing accessible to all who dream of sharing their stories with the world.
